Hotel Institute Montreux has made me a stronger person and prepared me for the real life.
I’ve chosen to study Management of the hospitality business program, because it is one of the few sectors that allow you to travel around the world and meet great people during and after graduation. The hospitality industry offers a wide range of options in terms of location and career specific.
Hotel Institute Montreux and Swiss Education Group provided me with a thorough academic program and a chance to take part in two internships, which made me a stronger person and prepared for the real life.
The internship recruitment department offered me the first internship in Dubai in 2010. Due to that team, I have discovered this progressive city with endless career opportunities. In Dubai I got a chance to become a Corporate Sales Manager of a team that was opening several Starwood hotels.
My current position (recruit management) involves close contact with major international banks and financial institutions and the financial staff recruitment according to banks’ business needs. I have the opportunity to meet people of different social and professional status, recognize their experience and help them to move to a new stage in their career.
The advice I would give to the future and current hospitality management students is to be prepared for hard work, adventure and fun.
For me, the main thing throughout my career has been a supporter of my professional philosophy: passion, flexibility and honesty.
Why do you think SEG students are the preferred choice for the industry?
Swiss Education Group is a very well organized group and at every step there is someone
there to help us with our problems. We all look like professionals; I saw the auditorium
with all the students wearing their uniforms and that fascinated me. We are already
professionals and look like them! Swiss Education Group accept students as they are and
successfully turn/shape us into professionals capable of working in the industry.
What is the biggest advantage of studying at CRCS?
I’ve been able to develop my technical skills so much since being here. Cesar Ritz
Colleges give you the opportunity to develop yourself-the teachers provide this
opportunity from day one and encourage you to continue developing throughout your
studies. I went on an interview with a teacher 2 weeks ago and he remembered the fact
that I love event planning and today he came to me and told me to go approach a specific
company that specialize in event planning. The teachers are so helpful because they
approach us to ask if we need any help and are so happy to provide it, even in
interviews-they really take away the stress around this which shows that its not only
their job, they really care about the students experience.
What was your first impression of Cesar Ritz Colleges?
It was exactly what I wanted and where I wished to be, from the teachers to the student
and the environment. For me it’s a mix between “colleagues” and friends as we work in a
professional setting. I’m experiencing university and work at the same time and in such
a short space of time!
Describe the campus and town in a few sentences.
I’ts both professional and friendly. They can be serious and very warm . When you go to
study you study in a calm and quiet place with no distractions. I feel that we’re like a
family as there is such close connection within campus, we’re all friends.
Do you feel that the school supports you well in terms of career development; getting
you to where you want to go?
Whether they’re busy or not they are always asking you how you are and are never
shallow. They always want to help. They don’t just make conversation, they actually
care!
What is the biggest advantage of studying at CRCS?
Professionalism and professionalism! I cannot find a better word to describe Cesar Ritz
Colleges.
Talk about the international student body, what's so unique about it?
Luckily my term was very well mixed, I got to know so many different cultures and I
really live them as I started learning some exotic languages and you can see how
everybody else lives, you get well-informed and great insights.
Talk about the subjects taught. Favorite classes, why? Teachers?
Hospitality and tourist management and nutrition and food science are my favourite
classes. They are useful for our careers and also for our day-to-day life.
What's so special about the programme you're enrolled in?
The environment, the teachers and how they treat us. They have to be strict but that
makes us grow.
What are the advantages of studying in Switzerland? Location, safety, education,
multicultural environment…
I love skiing. The school is situated in a quiet pace with amazing landscapes; you just
have to walk down the street and there’s an amazing landscape. Waking up to amazing
views first thing in the morning-what a great way to start your day at school.
I am now doing my MIB but came last year and did a PG program for 6 months, then an internship Monteux in F&B department as bar tender and now I’m back for the last 6 months of the program. The luxury specialization was the thing that made me stay for my masters programme, sponsored by Hublot. Mr Best, the guy who invented Louis Vutton’s marketing department. He invented their whole marketing strategy. He worked in Nespresso.. I can’t wait to start this specialization. I cant wait to hear all he has to say-this is something you cannot get from a book.
Why do you think SEG students are the preferred choice for the industry?
I believe that it comes down to the fact the Switzerland is the country for studying
hospitality. I wrote best hospitality schools Switzerland and saw SEG and read all the
best hospitality schools come under SEG. HIM connected me to the regional manager, who
tried to get me to go to Cesar Ritz Colleges but I preferred HIM. I agree with the
reviews, I think Swiss Education Group is the best! My boyfriend’s sister studies
hospitality in England and the connections we get here in comparison are so strong. I
really believe I have come to the BEST place for hospitality and I feel that the
industry notice the skills that Swiss Education Group students have, otherwise they
would not continue to come and visit us. We have convinced the industry!!!!!
Which unique selling points are you putting forth when going for an interview?
I could say that I am very dynamic and a very communicative person, I left home 5 years
ago, have travelled around and have had to communicate with other people and solve
issues. I have learnt to be patient and work with lots of different types of people. I
have lots of ideas, and have seen many different cities, arts and cultures. I am very
open minded and able to have my opinion changed by others. I love being proven wrong,
being proven right and communicating and exchanging ideas. I met my future husband here.
I love the dynamics, the changing environment, I love the marketing side to the
programmes. Now I’m looking for various jobs and I believe the skills I have achieved
have allowed me to be very open minded and able to work with different people. I have
become a very strong team player and was not like this in the beginning. I have learnt
how to work efficiently and have been very positively influenced through my education. I
owe what I am now to my previous 5 years away from home, studying and interacting with
new and different people.
What was your first impression of Hotel Institute Montreux?
That everything is very organized. I remember when I came on my first day, one of the
duty managers came straight away to help. They were very careful and professional
guiding us through everything. They pay attention to each and every new student.
Speaking patiently to parents. I had an excellent first impression. I didn’t know
anything beforehand and was welcomed so nicely.
Do you feel that the school supports you well in terms of career development; getting
you to where you want to go?
I really do, we started having internship workshops. Each of us had individual
appointments with the career advisor who asked for tailor made personalized questions.
They are willing to help us as long as we are motivated. They take the time for
everyone. Nobody says that they are not helped. My internship coordinator has the right
connections and she called around companies to help me. She gave me the connections and
sent me there!
What is the biggest advantage of studying at HIM?
I would say the connections between the students; I have a lot of lose friends that I
plan to stay in touch with and the advantage to attend the IRF. Mix between personal and
professional connections. They give us the rope and we just need to climb it. They
organize a lot of social events, at the end of week 2 you feel like you are one and know
everybody . Everybody is happy with the social life.
What's so special about the programme you're enrolled in
I did the PG and now I’m doing the masters. I liked that they are treating us as grown
ups, we were already experienced so they were treating us as such and at the same time
they taught us the basics (from the beginning) but customized to the class age group.
The teachers are very good at customizing the service according to student needs. They
won the lottery but attracting such amazing teachers to HIM, through specialisations
etc.
Why do you think SEG students are the preferred choice for the industry? I think because mostly it’s like a big chain-comprised of 5 schools with a great reputation. Our students are great ambassadors for the school.
What was your first impression of HIM?
“That it was beautiful. Actually when I came to visit it was during the winter holidays
so there wasn’t anybody inside the campus, yet the atmosphere was like at home, I got a
very warm feeling. My first experience in my first week was scary but everyone was so
professional. Everything was so different and I was young but I got used to it very
quickly and fit in. Our teachers were very supportive not only in first week but in
general-they can talk to us about our life problems not just the academic ones. In this
school there is no difference between students and teachers they are more like our
second family and equal to us.
Do you feel that the school supports you well in terms of career development; getting
you to where you want to go?
“I knew where I wanted to go but they supported me with any problems and if I needed to
talk to someone they were always available”
What is the biggest advantage of studying at HIM?
“I think the international atmosphere-you have friends from all over the world so you
can learn about different cultures and countries. We are all different and I have
friends for life. “
How did your career/internship coordinator prepare you for the IRF?
They look at our CV, give their professional opinion and gave us feedback as to how to
improve it and make it visually more appealing. We were given some great tip on how to
look and talk, as well as present information. From my internships I have received some
great advice. I did my 1st internship in beau rivage and after they hired me they gave
me advice for the future on how to improve myself.
Which unique selling points do SEG give you when presenting yourself to the
industry?
I think the school has really helped me to grow up, to be professional, more calm and
confident and to present myself well in front of different types of people. This will
really help me in achieving success in my career.
Talk about the endorsements and industry partnerships involved in your curriculum.
(HIM)
“We have different master classes that are always fully booked they’re so good! There
are also people that come from all over to explain how to present ourselves. I got a lot
of information from the internship office in my first year, which was very helpful in
knowing how to talk to people I was doing a marketing specialization, partnered with
special pencil in Lausanne. They gave us lots of advice on how to present our
presentations. We were creating posters for the jazz festival to be presented at the
festival itself. They came and explained what the industry need and are looking for. It
was fun and of course useful as before I didn’t know about marketing tactics. They can
be used everywhere and allow you to understand that people’s perceptions can vary”
Talk about the subjects taught. Favorite classes, why? Teachers?
Marketing and advertising campaigns were my favorite subjects. I definitely made a right
choice. I knew this was for me and it was what I was passionate about and wanted to do.
What's so special about the programme you're enrolled in? (IHTTI for example)
I think it gives an international education that we can apply not only in Europe but in
America as we have the Northwood university partnership. I can apply the knowledge I’ve
gained not only to hospitality but to other aspects of my life. The experience that I
have gained has been incredible!
When I arrived to HIM I had a feeling that I just needed to be there. It was very professional and very organized and it was just “my place” I cant explain but coming to HIM was the best decision I ever made! HIM has provided the perfect educational and professional support. I have a lot of knowledge connecting to the hospitality industry and it’s always good to gain experience from industry leaders! You will never find this type of opportunity anywhere else. We can get feedback and develop life contacts with people in the business-this is priceless!
Why did you chose to study this particular programme?
I think the fact that
the
programme is very new and at the development stage there is huge potential. It’s
Important to broaden my horizons and not just learn about hospitality; this programme
provides the perfect blend between business and hospitality.
Why do you think SEG students are the preferred choice for the industry?
It
depends on each person’s personality, you must be motivated. Swiss Education Group
provides a great networking environment-all the schools are very united. In terms of
student life it is very developed and the teachers are great. The teachers instill it in
us to be independent and to follow our passion. They teach us to have the ability to
make the right choices and are very honest with the students.
What was your first impression of HIM?
I thought right away that it was very
modern. I was here 5 years ago and learning English and it has improved a lot since
then. The teachers and staff put a huge effort into improving student’s life’s. There
are so many weekly activities, excursions and different workshops, plus IRF lessons. For
people who haven’t studied here before it’s a great chance to learn so much. “The master
specialization allow for a great opportunity as it allows for an obtained knowledge for
what to study next term.” There are several options, luxury, marketing etc etc.
Describe the campus and town in a few sentences.
Its quite international and
very
diverse. Everybody has something to discover for themselves. Montreux is beautiful. I
think here you can combine your studies and your life outside school. I started in
Bouveret at Cesar Ritz Colleges it’s perfect for focusing on studies but when you’re a
lot more mature its so wonderful to study in such a nice setting and allows for a great
combination for a work life balance.
Do you feel that the school supports you well in terms of career
development;
getting you to where you want to go? I think that for my basic education I have a really
good start and the Swiss education is uncompromisingly good and will be very good for my
future.
What is the biggest advantage of studying at HIM?
The programme itself is an
opportunity to be transferred into my third term so my masters can be completed in 6
months. You have the opportunity to receive other internships that are so great for your
working experience. Just being connected to Switzerland is also something that will be
great on my CV.
Talk about the endorsements and industry partnerships involved in your curriculum.
(HIM)
The partner that I connected with in this programme was HUBLOT. At
Cesar
Ritz Colleges we had the head of Henesi Louis Vuitton that came to give guest speeches
which was great. Next term we will have some managers come to visit from luxury
companies which I’m really looking forward to. I rely on their huge number of
experiences which is such a priceless thing to share from such professionals and I
believe that can really help me in the future.
Talk about the subjects taught. Favorite classes, why? Teachers?
I think our program is very strong for marketing classes. I really like that the
lecturers don’t just follow the powerpoints but the also give life examples and up to
date relevant info including news allowing us to keep up to date with trends which can
be applied to every
subject- this is knowledge that you can implement in our day to day lives. There were
some service and charity events, that were very useful in my fist year.
What are the advantages of studying in Switzerland?
Location, safety, education,
multi cultural aspects… I would say the Swiss quality, security and stability.
